The judge of the Bir Mourad Raïs Court in Algiers placed journalist and writer Saâd Bouakba in provisional detention on Thursday, 27 November 2025.
Bouakba had been questioned on Wednesday, 26 November 2025 by the National Gendarmerie regarding statements he made during a podcast on the Ro’ya Electronic Channel, in which he discussed several figures of the Algerian Revolution and former officials.
On Thursday morning, Bouakba appeared before the Public Prosecutor, who referred him to trial under immediate appearance procedures. The judge of the Bir Mourad Raïs Court ordered his provisional detention and set Thursday, 4 December 2025 as the date for his hearing.
Journalist Saâd Bouakba is being prosecuted on charges of insult and defamation committed through information and communication technologies against symbols of the National Liberation Revolution, in addition to the offense of deliberately publishing and promoting, by any means, false or misleading news among the public, in accordance with Articles 148 bis 1, 333 bis 6, and 196 bis of the Penal Code.
