Every year, the world celebrates Human Rights Day on December 10th, commemorating the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
SHOAA is launching a 10-day online “advocacy campaign”, from December 1st to December 10th, to raise awareness of the human rights situation in Algeria, especially with the escalating repression of activists, journalists, civil society activists, and human rights defenders in Algeria.
This campaign aims to support human rights in Algeria, by highlighting human rights issues and violations of public freedoms, and by focusing on Algeria’s international obligations, in accordance with the international treaties and conventions it has ratified. The campaign pressures the Algerian government to accept the recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights held in November 2022 without reservation, takes constructive recommendations seriously, and actively works on their implementation in order to carry out reforms that guarantee all basic human rights.
The advocacy campaign will use its own set of hashtags, which are as follows:
#Algeria’s_international_obligations
SHOAA invites all individuals, including human rights defenders, journalists, media professionals, social media activists, organisations and all interested parties to participate in this campaign.
