Bouira Court Sentences Activist Yahia Semache to 18 Months in Prison

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the Bouira Court sentenced community activist Yahia Semache to 18 months of prison time along with a financial fine, on charges of inciting an unarmed gathering, spreading misleading information that could disrupt public order, and promoting hate speech, based on posts he made on Facebook.

Yahia Semache was placed in pretrial detention on January 22, 2025, until his trial at Bouira Court on January 29, 2025. After the pleadings, the verdict was postponed until February 4, 2025, when the court ultimately ruled in favor of a prison sentence accompanied by a financial fine.

Known for his community activism and advocacy for civil rights, Yahia Semache had previously faced multiple legal proceedings due to his views and involvement in social and political issues. He has been a prominent figure in solidarity campaigns and reform initiatives, which has led to repeated judicial prosecution.
