On Monday, October 14, 2024, a judge at the Biskra Court issued a one-year prison sentence against activist Ahmed Saadi for charges of undermining the morale of the army and insulting the President of the Republic.
Activist Ahmed Saadi was arrested on August 8, 2024, by plainclothes security officers in the Biskra district and taken to an unknown location. His family received no contact from him or from the security forces that arrested him during the first three days of his detention.
Subsequently, his family filed a complaint with the public prosecutor at the Biskra Court of Appeal. After five days, Ahmed Saadi managed to contact his family to reassure them that he was in good health and was being held for investigation by the security forces that arrested him, although he did not inform them of his whereabouts until he was presented before the public prosecutor at the Biskra Court, who referred him to the investigating judge, who ordered his detention in prison on Thursday, August 15, 2024, pending investigation.
